Guernsey Develops Design for Red Cross Expansion
05.14.2002
OKLAHOMA CITY – C.H. Guernsey & Company is in the final design stages for the expansion/renovation of the Red Cross headquarters in Oklahoma City. In 1996, GUERNSEY was retained by the American Red Cross of Central Oklahoma to create a Master Plan for the organization's existing facility and to provide recommendations concerning projected expansion needs.
Subsequently, in the spring of 2000, GUERNSEY was asked to update the Master Plan to incorporate recent organizational restructuring and revise the allocation of space needs. The report includes a revised program document, current organizational chart, space allocation drawings, schematic drawings, renderings and a preliminary budgetary cost estimate.
When finished, the renovated structure will allow the Red Cross to move its branch office in Shepherd Mall to the headquarters facility on Northeast 6th street. The building will also hold large classroom and training areas, a store where the public may purchase Red Cross gear including instructional workbooks and first aid kits, as well as expanded administration areas. The highlight of the building is a state-of-the-art Emergency Operations Center.
A groundbreaking ceremony to kick off the construction phase of the new center was held earlier this summer.
