C. H. Guernsey & Company Hogs the Love for United Way

OKLAHOMA CITY – C. H. Guernsey & Company (Guernsey) recently held its annual United Way kick-off campaign. This year’s event was given the theme “Midway for the United Way.” Employees setup booths where participants could participate in carnival style activities such as football tossing, balloon darts and a cake walk. Additionally, part of the event was a chili and dessert cook-off.

The crowd favorite was undoubtedly Soak the CEO. Guernsey CEO Pat Carroll arrived in waders, a snorkel and an umbrella in hand to face the onslaught of 300 water balloons.

Guernsey Board members also participated in a “Kiss the Pig” contest. Employees donated money to determine which board member would kiss “Porky” the pig, generously donated by Jerry Lemmon of Choctaw, Okla. CFO Cindy Baker brought home the bacon and kissed the pig in high fashion – complete with boa and makeup. The other members of Guernsey’s board joined in the fun. Each member had to pay-up or kiss-up. Carroll led the way promising not only to pay the ransom, but also kiss the pig.

Guernsey has supported the United Way for over 20 years. Last year’s employee donations exceeded $24,000, a number Guernsey expects to surpass this year. “The support of Guernsey and companies like it are crucial to the United Way each year,” says Bob Spinks, United Way of Central Oklahoma President. “We value the partnership with Guernsey and the value it adds to the community.”

The United Way of Central Oklahoma supports local communities by helping those in need. Programs include an elderly limo service with Daily Living Center, support of children on Medicaid, and emergency food and shelter for non-disaster related emergencies.
