Guernsey Adds Two Engineering & Environmental Staff
12.13.2006
OKLAHOMA CITY –The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District recently tasked C. H. Guernsey & Company (Guernsey) and W. G. Yates & Sons Construction to design and construct a set of seven dormitory buildings and two dining facilities located at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas. Due to base closures in Europe, the $300 million dormitory construction project will provide additional facilities to accommodate returning troops.
A typical dormitory building will be 162,061 SF and four-stories, capable of housing 600 students in 300 units. A staff of 12, working in shifts, will operate the facility. Each facility will be identical in design and construction to accommodate a condensed timeline. The design/build team of Guernsey and Yates Construction will be able to move from building to building without stopping until the program is completed. “The Yates/Guernsey team was very excited to be selected by the Tulsa Corps of Engineers to be a part of this new delivery model. Yates and Guernsey are committed to supplying the resources needed to help the Department of Defense complete this mission by 2010,” said Kent Hanebaum, Guernsey’s Director of Architecture and Engineering.
As part of the project, Guernsey will also design parking lots, specialized enclosures, a basketball court, a sand volleyball court and a picnic area. The site is currently used as the base’s parade field. The first dorm is expected to be completed by August 2007.
