Guernsey Employee Raising Money to Fight Breast Cancer

06.28.2007

OKLAHOMA CITY – C. H. Guernsey & Company, a long-time supporter of Oklahoma-area community functions, encourages its employees to participate in a wide range of organizations and activities.

One employee, Angie Salyer, is a shining example. She is participating in the Breast Cancer 3-Day walk in Dallas, Texas. This fall, teams from across the U.S. will converge on Dallas for a three-day, sixty mile walk to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. She has organized fund-raising events and is leading the charge to fight breast cancer.

“I am walking in the Breast Cancer 3-Day to give hope and support to survivors,” said Salyer. In order to participate, each walker must train for the event and commit to raising funds for the foundation. We appear to be the only Oklahoma team participating, our team goal is to raise $8,800.”

Cancer has affected Salyer’s family.

“My grandparents had eleven children, all raised in Oklahoma. Eight were diagnosed with some form of cancer during their lifetime. Six of those eight have already lost their lives to cancer, including one aunt who lost her battle against breast cancer in 2004,” said Salyer.

GUERNSEY too has also been impacted by breast cancer.

“When two of my co-workers were diagnosed with breast cancer within a few weeks of each other, I decided that I wanted to do something bold to help fight the disease.”

On June 25, Salyer organized a fundraising golf tournament to help accomplish her team’s goal. Though she had never taken on a task remotely like the tournament – Salyer remained undaunted and successfully raised $3,630 from tee box sponsorships and participant registrations and their generous donations.

To date, Salyer’s team has raised $4,855. “I am extremely happy to have met my personal goal, and with continued fundraising events, I am optimistic that the team will meet and exceed its goal over the next four months.”
