Guernsey Completes $17M Navy Fitness Center

08.16.2007

Oklahoma City -- Since the destructive 2004 and 2005 hurricane seasons, Oklahoma-based C. H. Guernsey & Company, has been helping restore the Navy’s mission capabilities in Florida.

The Pensacola Naval Air Station is celebrating the grand opening of the Radford Fitness Center and Gymnasium. The $17.7 million, 54,000-square-foot facility is one of three Guernsey projects scheduled for completion at the base in 2007.

The new Physical Fitness Center replaces the old facility, a converted aircraft hangar, which was destroyed by hurricane Ivan. The new flagship facility will serve active duty, enlisted Department of Defense personnel, naval aviation rating students, base personnel, reservist and retirees at the base.

Over the past seven years, Guernsey has designed seven physical fitness facilities winning several design awards. "The Pensacola facility provides our service men and women with a fitness center that rivals any private sector complex," said David Oman, Guernsey director of architecture. "Our goal is to offer quality, innovative design solutions; and it gives us great pride to support our soldiers and sailors."

The Pensacola Naval Complex employs more than 16,000 military and 7,400 civilian personnel, according to the NAS Pensacola Web site. The continued growth of NAS Pensacola is vital to the local economy, not just in Pensacola, but all communities in the surrounding Gulf States.
