Military official conducted a ceremony Wednesday celebrating the start of construction on a new $4.8 million building at the Will Rogers Air National Guard Base.
The new building will house the 146th Air Support Operation Squadron, a unit formed in October 2008.
Members of the squadron advise Army ground commanders on air power capabilities, and requests and controls air strikes for the Army.
The squadron is a partner of the 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team and is expected to deploy with the 45th when the unit is scheduled to go to Afghanistan next year.
The new building was designed by C. H. Guernsey of Oklahoma City and is being built by Magnum Construction of Broken Arrow.
It is expected to be finished by August 2012.
