EDMOND — It took three tries before city staff found a suitable bid to present to the council for a concession and restroom building at Edmond's soccer complex.

A $409,000 bid on the project will be considered by the city council at 5:30 p.m. Monday night at 20 S Littler Ave.

Two earlier bids were $350,000 higher than what was budgeted for the 1,590-square-foot building at the Service-Blake Soccer fields on Danforth Road between Kelly and Santa Fe avenues.

Assistant City Manager Steve Commons said the scale of the project was adjusted and modified to cut the costs.

The roof was redesigned, and a breezeway was eliminated, Commons said.

“We have adjusted the design so it will be less expensive,” Commons said. “I think it will still look attractive.”

If the bid is accepted, Commons said, construction will not start until after an August soccer tournament.

Three additional soccer fields have been constructed at the complex. The cost for the fields was $1.3 million.

Money for the fields and a restroom and concession building is coming out of the special park tax fund. The city will get $133,000 for the building project from a deal made with American Towers Inc. to install a cellular tower on the soccer complex property. Lighting will be installed on the cell tower.

Plans are to construct the buildings for the cell tower and the concessions and restroom to match. Council members have spent $66,000 with C .H. Guernsey for design work.
