The project consisted of a new 1,000 car monthly pay parking garage. The garage supplements the county’s existing metro parking garage by moving all monthly parking to the new facility and utilizing transponder technology for attendant-less entry and exit. The existing garage was modified as a part of this project to accept hourly and monthly parking for the adjacent county courthouse. The garage was intended to provide an up-scale parking facility in a revitalized downtown setting.
The existing metro parking garage was converted to pay-on-foot technology where a customer receives a ticket upon entering the garage and pays the parking fee at a pay-on-foot station in one of two lobbies immediately before returning to his car. The garage is also equipped with transponder technology to accept monthly parkers.
The new garage consists of nine stories with over 1,000 parking spaces. Metal halide lighting was utilized to provide 1.5 to 2 footcandles of uniform lighting. Alternating fixtures were switched to provide a reduced light level during early morning off-peak times.
Multiple, color surveillance cameras were utilized for both general security and for exit-gate trouble signals, all monitored in the garage manager’s office.
