The emergency power source for this major metropolitan hospital consisted of three diesel engine-driven motor generator sets of varying sizes. Two of the generator sets were aging and unreliable. GUERNSEY provided a design that utilized one existing 1250 kW generator and two new 750 kW generators, all feeding new paralleling switchgear.
Two aging generator sets were removed to make room for paralleling switchgear and transfer switches. An adjacent unused trash incinerator building connected to the hospital’s central steam and chilled water plant was renovated to house two new 750 kW generators. Radiators and silencers were located on the roof directly above the new generator sets.
The installation provided Integris Southwest Medical Center with additional emergency power capacity, and redundancy and improved overall reliability of the emergency distribution system.
