This project consisted of the design of a new toll plaza to replace the existing facility. The project included extensive traffic control planning within a tight right-of-way, total reconstruction of the existing pavement, utility coordination and right-of-way assessment. The roadway elements included retaining wall design, pavement analysis and design, detour design, multiple phase construction and storm sewer drainage design.
The project bid for less than the engineers’ estimate and the programmed amount. The toll plaza components included state-of-the-art tollbooth, aesthetic toll plaza canopy, entirely self-contained backup power sources and protected power for continuous operations. The toll plaza canopy included brick veneer facing, ceramic steel facia and soffits, equipment building and enhanced toll collection features.
