GUERNSEY's Knowledge is Power: Understanding Rates & Cost of Service seminar has hosted more than 100 electric cooperative staff in seminars conducted in Oklahoma, Georgia and Florida. The electric cooperative-focused seminar examines cost of service and rate development from the board-level perspective through collecting rate class information and developing test-year data.
GUERNSEY works with electric cooperatives across the Nation in the areas of rates, cost of service, financial forecasting, power supply, power engineering such as T&D, substations, generation and distributed generation and architecture, security and environmental engineering. Our staff's capabilities are the result of working in partnership with cooperatives since 1936. Few companies possess the experience and staff to provide a complete array of services to electric cooperatives. GUERNSEY rate consultants posses a very unique perspective on the many facets of the cooperative's operations and planning. They are able to develop customized cost of service studies and rate designs that meet the needs of the individual cooperative and that are not done in a "cookie-cutter" format.
The Rate and Cost of Service seminars exemplify their expertise. Participants learn:
- Do we need a rate increase? How are revenue requirements determined? Will the cooperative's financial objectives be met?
- How much should each rate class contribute to the cooperative's revenue requirement? Will we still be competitive?
- How do we properly allocate costs to each class? How does this impact the competitiveness of rates?
- What is the best method for determining demand, energy and customer charges? How do we balance cost of service and customer impact?
- What is each customer's contribution to their class' revenue requirements? How do we accurately reflect purchased power costs?
