Constructed in the mid 1920s, Lake Guthrie's water supply dam was declared unsafe as a result of a non-federal dam safety inspection. The dam provides a major source of water for the City of Guthrie.
GUERNSEY developed a Phase I concept and construction cost estimate to bring the dam into safety compliance.
Floods were routed through the reservoir to determine the amount the dam had to be raised with the addition of an uncontrolled emergency spillway to prevent overtopping of the dam and adequate freeboard during flood conditions.
Construction plans and specifications were prepared for the addition of a 320-foot ogee spillway, raising the top of the dam four feet and modifying the backslope of the dam to reduce seepage and increase the dam’s stability.
Full-time construction observation and contract administration were provided during the construction phase
