GUERNSEY provided civil engineering sub-consulting services for the O'Brien golf course, driving range, roadways, parking, baseball fields with concession / restroom facilities and major drainage improvements with water features.
GUERNSEY provided recommendations on drainage and site design issues during development of the master plan and provided conceptual cost estimates of the proposed site improvements.
Drainage was a major issue to the improvements to be made to the park. Most of the park is located in the path of 100-year flooding from Bird Creek backwater. The two main drainage ways through the park are Cherokee School Creek and a tributary to Cherokee School Creek.
GUERNSEY's report recommended that the water features be designed to pass a two-year frequency storm elevation. Culverts would pass flow from one water feature to the next. We suggested that a pond depth of five-feet with 3:1 side slopes be incorporated into this design and that all playable areas be graded to a level above a two-year frequency storm.
