Planning and Design Charettes
GUERNSEY immediately differentiates itself through its effective utilization of the planning and design charrette process. A charrette is a multi-day, onsite effort in which the design team and the client meet together to establish program data or reconfirm project criteria, and establish a preliminary floor plan, site plan and cost estimate. These initial plans become the basis of design or establish criteria for funding approval.
Over the past several years, GUERNSEY has routinely performed design charrettes at the beginning of the design for government projects to update the project requirements, verify and redefine the client’s needs as compared to the original criteria and funding documents, and establish the project floor plan and site plan to be utilized for final design.
GUERNSEY more recently has been requested to utilize their design charrette experience to perform project planning charrettes to verify government criteria and funding documents, or develop these documents to process for approval through higher command. This process provides more project and cost information earlier in the project conception, which may eliminate or minimize the time required for a design charrette.
Recent projects where the planning and design charrette contributed to a successful outcome include:
- DOL Maintenance Complex, Fort Sill, OK
- Base Civil Engineer Complex, Altus AFB, OK
- Visitor Quarters, Altus AFB, OK
- Two Company Fire Station, Fort Sill, OK
- Tactical Equipment Shops, FY06, Fort Sill, OK
- CID Facility, Fort Sill, OK
- Trainer Maintenance Facility, Sheppard AFB, TX
