Anti-Terrorism / Force Protection (AT/FP)
In the last decade, GUERNSEY has been increasingly tasked with meeting anti-terrorism/force protection (AT/FP) requirements as part of our security designs. Often, these requirements are government mandated, while in other instances they are a client requirement.
Common AT/FP strategies include the use of:
- crash-rated fencing
- bollards or planters to provide setback and/or limit damage from a vehicle attack
- window glazing to provide bullet resistance and/or fragment retention
- “progressive collapse” structural design to limit the likelihood of a complete building collapse

Typically, GUERNSEY first evaluates a site to identify constraints and the ability to meet set-back requirements from all roads and parking lots. This initial evaluation is used to define the upgrade requirements for the facility exterior and facility grounds to include crash-rated bollards, fencing, gates and blast resistant doors and windows.
Of larger consequence is the structural integrity of the building should it be exposed to a large blast event. GUERNSEY engineers have extensive experience in evaluating various structural systems to find the most economical system to meet “progressive collapse” requirements.
